Six fire engines initially attended a house fire on Dalton Lane, with the incident leading to the road being closed between Hardwick Street and Creswick Road while emergency crews dealt with the blaze.
People living nearby were advised to keep windows and doors closed because of smoke from the fire.
The incident affected local roads, and nearby Trinity Croft school delayed opening until 10.30am because of smoke in the area.
Access to the school was also restricted, with people unable to approach from the Doncaster Road side while the emergency response was under way.
Fire crews later left the scene, and three people were taken to hospital for precautionary checks.
The blaze is currently believed to have started accidentally.
