South Yorkshire’s Mayor and council leaders are due to consider a proposed deal to bring Doncaster Sheffield Airport and the adjacent Innovation Quarter employment land into public ownership.
The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority says the agreement is subject to formal approval by its board on 27 October and agreement by Peel Land. If approved, the MCA would buy the airport and employment land and become the freehold owner and landlord to the City of Doncaster Council lease.
Work towards reopening has included recruiting senior aviation staff, progressing airspace changes and procuring equipment including fire tenders and a new radar system.
The authority says freight services are planned to return from autumn 2027 and passenger services from spring 2028, subject to the regulatory and operational work required to reopen the airport.
