City of Doncaster Council says £57m of borrowing previously approved to support the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport would no longer be required under the latest ownership proposals.
The new arrangement would see South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority acquire the airport and enter into a contractual agreement with the council as the project progresses.
The council says transitional costs would instead be covered by SYMCA, reducing Doncaster Council's ongoing operational and financial exposure.
The proposals are subject to the necessary decisions and agreements between the council, SYMCA and Peel Land.
