South Yorkshire Police say they were called at 1.35pm today (Saturday 10 October) following reports of a man entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.
The tiger attacked the man, causing serious injury, the force says. Emergency services attended, but despite the efforts of medical personnel the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the man's family is aware and is being supported by specialist officers, and that their thoughts are with them at this distressing time.
Addressing rumours about the tiger, police say the animal was uninjured and remained in the enclosure after the incident, and that there is no wider risk to the public.
The park was evacuated following the incident and officers remain on scene carrying out enquiries. Police say they are aware of videos circulating online and are encouraging people not to share the footage.
